The Morris County Fair Housing Council records document the first twenty five years of the Morristown New Jersey based non-profit corporation. On March 12, 1963, nine individuals, concerned about racial discrimination in Morris County housing, met at Drew University. Recognizing the need for citizen involvement to combat discriminatory housing practices in Morris County, they agreed to plan a course of action, and so "The Morris County Fair Housing Council" was born.
Their mission became to ensure that anyone, regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, nationality, ancestry, sex, marital status, familial status, mental or physical handicap and sexual orientation could obtain suitable housing without discrimination.
On October 25, 2001, the Morris County Fair Housing Council became The Fair Housing and Assistance Program of the Urban League. A multi racial organization, the Urban League is a leading proponent of cooperation between cultures. Today, The Fair Housing and Assistance Program continues to help the disenfranchised by opening doors to employment and career paths in local businesses and corporations.

The five document folders of this collection contain annual reports and program booklets.
The records of the Morris County Fair Housing Council consist of five file folders and are housed in a half sized document box. The collection does not have a series arrangement. Four of the folders are in chronological order. The last folder contains annual dance program booklets that span the organization's first nine years.
This material is open for research without restriction under the conditions of the North Jersey History Center archives access policy. Records may be copied for use in individual scholarly or personal research, however, as with all materials in the History Center, researchers are responsible for obtaining copyright permission to use material from the collection. Material in the Morris County Fair Housing Council Records may be photocopied, but because this material is a permanent part of the History Center's collections, researchers are advised to photocopy with care, using only the edge copier for bound material.
