Researching Your House's History

Discover the many ways to find out about your house’s history, its exterior and interior, and the people who lived in it.  This workshop is designed for beginners to the house history process, and provides an introduction to basic methods for researching documentation in government archives, libraries, historical societies, and on the internet.  Participants have an opportunity to use the excellent resources of the North Jersey History Center at the Morristown and Morris Township Library, conducting first-hand research of primary source documents such as maps, city directories, and censuses. 

This workshop is co-sponsored by the Morristown & Morris Township Library and Drew's Historic Preservation Certificate program.

Time:  10 a.m.- 3 p.m.

Celebrate Black History Month at the Library. Freedom Stairway is a multimedia musical saga, performance based on Born in Slavery: Slave Narratives from the Federal Writer’s Project, 1936-1938. Briz’s songs portray the sacrifice and hardship that slaves endured, and the narratives depict the dangers along the Underground Railroad. Light refreshments will be served.
