Determined Spirit: The Story of Amelia Earhart, A One - Woman Show

Thursday March 21, 2013
7:00 PM
Actress and historian Monica Hoffman performs as Amelia Earhart in a one-woman show that reveals the life and legacy of the world’s most celebrated female aviator.

Aviator Amelia Earhart was a woman of inspiring courage and incredible zest for life. In her lifetime she accomplished many amazing feats, including: becoming the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean, the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and the first woman to fly solo from Los Angeles to Mexico and Mexico to Newark. Before her mysterious disappearance somewhere over the Pacific Ocean on her ill-fated 1937 round the world flight, she had established herself as more than just a great aviator; she was a revered pioneer for women with a determined spirit to seize every opportunity life granted her. Determined Spirit: The Story of Amelia Earhart is a chance to know Amelia Earhart in a true and personal way and perhaps find yourself touched by her enduring message of bravery in pursuit of dreams.

During the 40 minute performance, Amelia will recall the events of her life from her earliest years until her infamous final flight. Audiences will meet the aviator America called “Lady Lindy” and discover a woman of integrity, humor, and inspiring courage.

Bio
Monica Hoffman Monica Hoffman is a professional actress and historian. Having grown up with a father who is a pilot, she felt the lure of aviation from her earliest years. In fact, she can still remember her childhood memories of being seated in the cockpit of a small plane as her dad explained all the instruments, and she got her first taste of the magnificent view from above. As an adult, that influence of flight ignited her own passion for discovering and portraying one of the most prolific female aviators the world has ever known, Amelia Earhart. Monica has studied acting privately as well as at the prestigious Walnut Street Theater in Philadelphia. She has performed in local and regional theaters that include Bristol Riverside Theater, The Delaware Valley Regional Theater, and The Academy of Music. Her credits include commercials and independent film, including the 2010 documentary Breaking Through the Clouds: The First Women’s National Air Derby.
