Spanish-Language Film Series

Spanish-Language Film Series: Voces Inocentes (Innocent Voices) (2004) (Rated R) 105 min.

Wednesday October 19, 2016
6:45 PM
What’s it like to be a child in Latin America? Join us this fall as the library marks National Hispanic Heritage Month 2016 with three movies exploring these themes (as well as how children both here and abroad experience poverty, crime, and war.) Tonight's movie from El Salvador is Voces Inocentes (Innocent Voices).

Part of our Growing Up in Latin America theme, this film is about the bloody civil war which tore El Salvador apart in the 1980s as seen through the eyes of 11-year-old Chava, growing up in a small town where the fighting between rebels and government troops is a daily fact of life. Chava's 12th birthday is coming up, which puts him in a dangerous position -- at 12, he'll be old enough to join the army and be used as cannon fodder against the rebels. As Chava faces both danger and adventure, the war edges in closer all the time until it can't be avoided any longer. Based on the writer’s childhood.

All movies are subtitled in English and will start at 6:45pm, and light refreshments will be provided.

¡Nos vemos pronto! (See you soon!)
