Book Arts Series

Fifth Annual Book Arts Series: Workshop

Saturday June 23, 2012
10:00 AM
The third program in the Fifth Annual Book Arts Series is a workshop entitled "Tunnel Books" presented by New Jersey artist and educator Maria Pisano.

A tunnel book is a wonderful structure that allows the viewer to look within and discover a hidden world, which evolves in accumulated layers. Originally derived from a peep show, it retains the experience of gazing within a personal space. The class will begin with a short history of movables. Next a sample will be made to understand the movement of the structure and then proceed to create one with their own images. Fee: $30.00. Registration is required. To register or for more information please contact Maria Norton at  973-538-6161 or email maria.norton@mainlib.org. Refreshments will be served at 9:30 AM.

The Book Arts Series has grown to become a wonderful, annual event here in Morristown and we are thankful to be able to offer it in our newly reopened Kirby Gallery and fully opened facility. This year’s fifth installment has a New Jersey focus with two New Jersey artists and a New Jersey printing historian. There is a reasonable fee for the workshops, thanks to generous, private support, but seating is limited so please register early to secure a seat.

Maria G. Pisano has an MFA in Book Arts from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and an MFA in Printmaking from Brooklyn College. Her works have been exhibited widely, in museums and galleries. Her book, See Time Run: A Primer was shown in the 26th Print National Exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, and the book Vita Defuncta, was part of the GBW 100th anniversary exhibit. Memory Press book works are in numerous private and public collections including the Library of Congress, The University of Connecticut, University of Delaware, The New York Public Library, Princeton University, Stanford University, and Virginia Commonwealth University.
