Services for Seniors at Cornerstone Family Programs
Cornerstone is formerly Family Service of Morris County. This past summer Family Service of Morris County merged with another of the great “cornerstones of the community” as Morristown Neighborhood House officially became a subsidiary of theirs. After 200 years, FSMC also decided it was time to select a new name to better reflect the current organization and the addition of the Morristown Neighborhood House to its “family of programs” and so Family Service of Morris County changed its name to Cornerstone Family Programs.
So a lot has changed, but what has not changed is Cornerstone Family Program’s service to the community’s seniors. Director of Senior Services David Haggerty will speak on CFP’s continuum of care designed to reach seniors where they live. Their services include Case management, Caregiver Services, Adult Day Services, Counseling/Social Work, and Volunteer driven programs. The Care Management Program includes a complete assessment of a senior's needs, benefit screening, and coordination of appropriate services, while Caregiver Services include outreach in the workplace, support groups and initiative programs designed to help manage the stress and frustration of caring for a loved one. Haggerty will explain all of the options open to seniors and their caregivers and will be on hand to answer questions.
Cornerstone Family Program’s history dates back to 1813, when it was founded to help the poor of Morristown, including those impacted by the War of 1812, with basic necessities such as food, clothing, and fuel. Today their mission still focuses on helping families and individuals of all ages build better lives. Cornerstone Family Programs serves over 7,000 people in programs throughout Northern New Jersey, with headquarters in Morris County. 2013 is a bicentennial year for the organization and one which they are celebrating with events all year long. Light refreshments will be served and the program is supported by the Friends of the Morristown & Morris Township Library.
