Historic Postcard Collection Online

The North Jersey History & Genealogy Center has recently updated its online historic postcard collection with the addition of approximately 100 new images. The image to the left is the First Presbyterian Church and Monument, circa 1910, Morristown, NJ. In our online postcard collection we invite you to rediscover long forgotten houses, streets, landmarks, and events of Morristown and Morris County.

Early postcard views reflect the period of growth and boosterism at the turn of the 19th century when it was common for towns to produce postcards locally. The Morristown views highlighted what were  considered to be its best structures and landmarks. Many buildings shown in these early images have changed or disappeared.

We added an aerial image of downtown Morristown which shows views of the old Lyon’s Park Theater on the Morristown Green, and eastern Speedwell storefronts.

Also recently added are views of Lake Pocahontas and Burnham Pond, The Morristown Green, and various photos of the Morristown Trolley. Several images of Jockey Hollow, the First Presbyterian Church, and grand residential mansions have also been added. These are just a few of the subjects we have recently uploaded!
