It has been, quite literally, a trial by fire. Just months before the departure of the previous director, Susan Gulick, the library was racked by a massive explosion that left large portions of the building significantly damaged. The past eight months have been a time of extreme emergency management, and Ms. Norton has risen to the task.
Leading the library through an unheard of catastrophe she stepped into a position she was well qualified to assume. As Assistant Director part of her duties included building maintenence, and she has a firm grasp of all the building's systems and operations. This knowledge was extremely helpful as she juggled the many demands this disaster imposed.
Ms. Norton's history here at The Morristown & Morris Township Library is also unique. She is a Morristown native and grew up just blocks away from the library. Her first job here was shelving books when she was a teenager. Her love for libraries, and especially The Morristown & Morris Township Library, led her to library school and jobs here as a Children's and Reference Librarian before becoming Assistant Director. Her broad experience working in several key departments cements a deep understanding of library practice. She places a strong emphasis on customer service and believes deeply in the promise of libraries.
We believe that her commitment to the local community and her devotion to The Morristown & Morris Township Library is a perfect combination for meeting the challenges that libraries now face as we try to provide new services and technologies without discarding traditional library values. Her support of this new website is proof.
We welcome her and wish her well.
