Excellent beginning site with lots of advanced features. Good news coverage with news alerts. Automaticaly checks spelling and offers suggestions.

AltaVista
Has very good image, MP3/audio and video searching. Has a very deep news archive. Offers ideas for related searches.

Yahoo
Has a narrowing feature called Also Try. Has news, weather and stock alerts. Allows you to customize the look of your Yahoo screen.

Refinements and Clusters
