Emily likes Sam
She's drawn to him from the start.
But Sam has secrets.
Emily's has a solo in her church choir. She doesn't have a great voice and she's nervous. When she looks across the congregation, she finds Sam Smith sitting in the back row.
And so begins the tale of lots of people. I'll Be There isn't just the story of Sam and Emily. It's a story about Sam's nearly mute little brother Riddle, and his mentally unstable father Clarence. It's about Emily's family, her mother, father, and younger brother Jared. It's about the people who live in town and a boy named Bobby who really just wants people to like and respect him.
I'll Be There was the the first book in a long time that I had to stay up late to finish. It was the first book in a long time that really spoke to me, that made me concerned about every single character. Except Clarence. I was only concerned with whether or not Clarence would get the punishment he was due.
This book is filled to bursting with characters. But it also has a well written plot that moves quickly. I'd highly recommend this book to almost anyone in 8th grade and up.
