Waverly might be
having the worst month. EVER.
Deep, deep, (space) trouble.
Glow by Amy Kathleen Ryan is a much different book than I expected. It's a little bit romance, a lot Star Trek and really, really suspenseful.
I would guess hundreds of years in the future, people have finally pretty much ruined our planet. A group of pioneers embark on a mission (in two separate space ships, the Empyrean and the New Horizon) to start New Earth, which is really far from Original Recipe Earth. While they're out in space, life continues for years and years, because it takes a LOOOOOOONG time to get to New Earth.
People have babies and grow old, plants and trees bloom and die- all floating in space. Unfortunately, one of the ships, the New Horizon, can't seem to produce any children. This makes them sad and angry. When it becomes apparent that the people on the New Horizon are infertile, they start a battle and kidnap all the girls from the Empyrean. One of the girls, Waverly, is the oldest girl on the Empyrean and immediately she knows something is totally wrong about what's going on.
I'm not doing this story any justice with this description. There's a lot going on and a lot of details that just can't be captured in a review. If you're still reading this review, then I highly recommend that you this book a shot. You might be surprised! Especially if you like space stories.
