Review: Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins

Review Haiku!

Lola and Cricket-
Obviously destined, but
fighting against it.

Lola Nolan is one of those rare characters that I love on the page, but I'm not sure if I'd like her in real life, mostly because I'd be intimidated by her confidence and her wild fashion sense.  In fact, Lola doesn't think about fashion, she thinks about COSTUME.  She's somebody new just about every day of the week.

She has a boyfriend, Max, whom she loves, though anybody with eyes can tell that they're wrong for each other and she has a best friend Lindsey.  This pretty much makes up her social circle, except for the Bell twins.  The Bell twins, Cricket (the boy) and Calliope (the girl) were Lola's best friends when she was younger.  And now, all of sudden, they've returned to the neighborhood.

Cricket is a different guy than he used to be, or so he claims.  Lola is not immediately ready to trust him or let him back into her life, after some issues they had in their early teens, not to mention the fact that she currently has a boyfriend.

It should be noted this is a companion book to Stephanie Perkins first novel, Anna and the French Kiss, though it's not necessary to read that before this.  Though I would recommend them both!
