Lena & Ethan
Beautiful Creatures is not quite what you would expect at first glance. It takes place in the small town of Gatlin, South Carolina and the main character is a boy, Ethan Wate, even though it absolutely looks like chick lit. Ethan is a sophomore in high school and is completely bored by the whole scene, until Lena Duchanne shows up to school one day.
He's taken with her, downright smitten from the start. Not to mention that she's been infiltrating his nightmares for a while. Lena has more secrets than Ethan could ever imagine and his boring life is quickly changed by her.
This book is a modern fantasy with a southern gothic flare. There's a lot more to it than meets the eye and it goes beyond the Twilight series into what felt like much darker and often creepier territory. Give it a try and it might give you the chills. And if you like it, you can look forward to reading the sequel part Beautiful Darkness and the third, Beautiful Chaos, which was just released last week.
And try not to judge them by their covers!
