Reading this book made
my eyes leak. Girl. Family.
Car accident. Gone.
The Beginning of After is one of those books that will stick with you even after you finished. It's the kind of book where it's just hard to get out of your head and it's hard not to put yourself in Laurel's position.
Laurel is just a normal high school junior when her parents and brother are killed in a car accident with their neighbors. David is a less average high school senior whose mom is killed in the same car accident and his father is in a coma. They both have to cope and to learn to deal with their losses. But it's more than that.
This story is gut wrenching, but there's also hope somewhere in there. And I think what it really displays is that sometimes you can make your own family, and they don't even have to be blood related. If you're ever thinking that you're having a bad day, take a dip into Laurel's life and find out what a real "bad day" looks like. And take a lesson from her on how to deal.
