That's all you need to know 'cause
it's just that awesome.
Fateful by Claudia Gray was one of those books that looked and sounded good, but I was worried about the execution and suspension of disbelief issues. Well, those worries were for nothing! Somehow Ms. Gray seamlessly wove a werewolf tale into the well known Titanic story.
Anybody who's seen the movie Titanic and/or read some of the accounts of that fateful voyage, know certain facts and accounts of the wee hours of April 15, 1912. What I liked so much about this book is the author worked to insert these elements into the story, but they never felt shoehorned in or forced in the least. Things like the band playing on while the ship sank, a mention of Molly Brown and those moments when the main character learns there aren't enough lifeboats. (!!!)
But beyond the Titanic lore, there's also a genuinely interesting main character, Tess, and a genuinely heartfelt main love story, along with many "B" & "C" plots. But none of it ever gets confusing or overwhelming and all of them feel resolved at the end. Furthermore, there's even some action! And a bit of mystery!
All in all, this book is great. There's really something in it for just about every taste. If you like stories rich in detail and filled with believable characters, then check out Fateful. I don't think you'll regret it!
