Learning your future
by reading your Facebook page
fifteen years ahead.
First of all, I was really looking forward to this book. I loved Jay Asher's first book, 13 Reasons Why and I'm a fan of Carolyn Mackler. (Author of such gems as The Earth, my Butt and Other Big Round Things and Tangled. Not the Tangled about Rapunzel though.) I'll tell you right off, they did NOT disappoint!
Taking place in 1996, Emma and Josh have been next door neighbors for years. When Emma gets her first computer, Josh comes over with an America Online disc, something so common in 1996 that I remember doing weird crafts with all the excess discs they used to send out. When they load AOL, they find their Facebook pages from 15 years in the future. Emma isn't pleased with her future, but Josh is pretty psyched about his.
They quickly learn that things they do in the present, even the smallest bump in the road, can have repercussions in the future. While Emma tries to change things in the future, Josh keeps trying to stop her in the present. It's a really interesting story and the premise is carried out well. Their confusion about the future in general and Facebook specifically makes this a great read for anyone looking for something different.
