Haiku Review!
So many feelings!
Sad, happy, lost, scared, confused.
A LOT OF CRYING.
This book is seriously wrought with emotion.
Jesse and Samantha have been friends for 15 years, most of their lives, when they learn that Jesse has cancer. His prognosis is not good, to say the least. Sam pretty much moves in next door with Jesse and his mom, sleeping in Jesse's room because he's afraid to die alone.
The book is basically about their time together, from diagnosis to chemo and beyond. What's amazing about this story is that while it's sad, objectively, there are some surprisingly happy moments. There are times when it's hard to believe that these two friends are up against something like cancer. There are other times when you can't help but put yourself in Sam's shoes, as she struggles with the reality of what could happen to Jesse.
Definitely recommended for anyone who's not afraid to think about things like cancer and mortality. They're heavy subjects, but if nothing else this book might make you feel a little bit better about the hard times in your own life.
