THIS BOOK IS COLD! And I mean that as in, the world that the characters live in is all ice and snow. There's no warmth left anymore. So if you're looking for a book to cool you off as the weather heats up, take a look at After the Snow.
Willo lives with his family as "scragglers." They live off the land and on the edge of society. However, one day Willo comes home from hunting and finds that his family has disappeared. All Willo knows is that he has to find safety and he needs to find his family. He takes off on a harrowing journey.
Somewhere along the way the people of this new Ice Age have picked up a different dialect, which is what the book is written in. For example, Willo says things like "Gonna want to show him something clever you done, like catching a big hare.” It made it a bit difficult for me to read, but once I got into it, the writing felt more natural. It might take a few extra pages, but the story is interesting and worth a try.
I've read reviews of this book hailing it as Hunger Games in a cold climate.
