Ben Bright has a solid future to look forward to. He's a good student, has been with his girlfriend for a long time, and is the lead in his high school play. However, a change in plans leads to a big change in his life.
After high school, instead of going on to college, Ben decides to join the army. While serving over seas, he's involved in a bombing. His family and friends come together to find out just how extensive his damage is.
This book is full of interesting characters. They each get a say in the proceedings and they each have a distinct voice.
I think what I found most interesting about this book was Ben's point of view. I really appreciated the authors getting into his head after his injury and making us understand that he's really in there, even if he can't communicate. It's a really sad point, but really interesting.
The story takes place with half of it leading up the bombing and the last half about Ben's recovery. I'd really love a sequel to find out how the rest of Ben's life turns out.
A great read, particularly for older high schoolers.
