First Lines of fantastic books!

I think a first line is almost as important as the description of the book. I can usually pick out a book that I want to read simply by checking the first line. It can really make it or break it for me. Here's a list of some of my favorites.

Anna and the French Kiss
“Here’s everything I know about France: Madeline and Amelie and Moulin Rouge.”

The Fault in Our Stars
“Late in the winter of my seventeenth year, my mother decided I was depressed, presumably because I rarely left the house, spent a large quantity of time in bed, read the same book over and over, ate infrequently, and devoted quite a bit of my abundant free time to thinking about death.”

Eleanor & Park
“XTC was no good for drowning out the morons at the back of the bus.”

Fangirl
“There was a boy in her room.”

The Beginning of Everything
“Sometimes I think that everyone has a tragedy waiting for them, that the people buying milk in their pajamas or picking their noses at stoplights could be only moments away from disaster.”

Sorta like a Rock Star
“Lying down, shivering on the last seat of school bus 161, pinned by his teensy doggie gaze which is 100% cute- I’m such a girl, I know- I say, “You won’t believe the bull I had to endure today.’”

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe
“One summer night I fell asleep, hoping the world would be different when I woke.”

Two Boys Kissing
“You can’t know what it is like for us now- you will always be one step behind.”

Will Grayson, Will Grayson
“When I was little, my dad used to tell me, ‘Will, you can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose, but you can’t pick your friend’s nose.’”

Divergent
“There is one mirror in my house.”

Hunger Games
“When I wake up, the other side of the bed is cold.”

The Book Thief
“First the colors.”
