Book Review: Noggin by John Corey Whaley

Haiku Review:
Travis fell "asleep"
sick. Woke up five years later
with a new body.

Travis Coates got sick, and then he got sicker. And then he gets the offer of his (very short) lifetime: to have his head cryogenically frozen and when science catches up, he could potentially continue life on someone else's body.

He accepts this offer, never thinking it could actually happen, until he wakes up. Everything is different. It's five years later so he should be 21, but his brain is still 16. And now he has to deal with being in some else's body. On top of dealing with all the changes that happened in the world while he was asleep. Everything from his girlfriend having moved on to the popularity of skinny jeans have him scratching his head. Not to mention the gigantic neck scar.

This is one of those books where once you suspend disbelief it's an interesting look at the emotional roller coaster that life tends to be. And that even if you're miraculously cured of all that ails you, the grass isn't automatically greener on the other side.

Highly recommended for high schoolers, particularly older boys.
