Book Review: We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

Haiku review:
Holy mackerel!
You will never, even guess
how this story ends.

I'm not even sure what to say about We Were Liars, because I definitely don't want to give anything away. It is without a doubt the kind of book that sticks with you. It makes you think and when you finish it, it makes you want to turn back to the beginning to try to understand how you missed what was going on.

The novel may seem like a pretty normal story about a rich girl from a wealthy family who's a sort of spoiled and spends every summer on a private island off the coast of Cape Cod. Cadence is a likable character and I cared about her and wondered what her secret was. I wondered what it was that she couldn't remember no matter how hard she tried. I was happy she had her family to support her. And that was enough to keep me reading. But the ending just blew me away.

Highly recommended for anyone in grades 10 and up, and anyone who loves a good twist.
