Life can be tough for
Eleanor and Park but now
They have each other.
The more someone tells me I'm going to like a book, the less likely it becomes that I will actually like it. So when everyone kept telling me I HAD to read Eleanor & Park, I kept putting it off.
As it turns out, it's definitely going to go on my best books of the year list, if not my favorite books ever list.
It's the story of two kids in Omaha, Nebraska in the 80's, and you guessed it, their names are Eleanor and Park. They meet on a school bus and what starts as quiet animosity grows into a really beautiful friendship and then more.
What I really loved about this story was how naturally their relationship grew. They're not perfect kids, they're awkward and hard to understand and sometimes push the other away for reasons you can't always grasp. Until you realize that they're just flawed human beings. It's an interesting look at how you present yourself and others perceive you.
I would highly, HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone in 9th grade and up. And I really do mean that "and up." I think adults would really get something out of this story too. Particularly ones who enjoy comic books and 80's altenative music.
