Haiku Review!
Andi has problems.
Big ones, little ones, but none
as huge as Alex’s.
Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly is about a girl named Andi who lives in present day New York City. When tragedy strikes, Andi finds her world dissolving around her and her guilt becomes overwhelming. Over her time, her mother slowly falls into a depression so deep that it borders on catatonic.
Enter her mildly absentee father. When he learns that Andi hasn’t been performing well at school, he forces her to go with him to Paris during her winter break. (Seriously, raise your hand if you would have to be FORCED to go to Paris?) While there, Andi discovers a diary from the French Revolution, making it well over 200 years old. Andi soon finds herself getting lost in the pages of the diary. The girl in the diary, Alex, tells a story of peril and bravery.
What could have been a ho-hum historical novel is instead a story with twists and turns. The characters are so real and the settings so vivid, it’s hard to put down.
