Review: Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein

Haiku Review:
Verity means truth
But when "Verity" is caught,
She lies to survive.

In 1943, "Verity" (a code name, as the title suggests) is in a plane that crashes in France. Nazi-occupied France, and she and her friend are both spies.

Having few options, Verity is captured by the Nazis and must weave a tale to survive and to protect other people's identities.

Then the story changes point of view, and we get to hear from Maddie, the pilot of the plane and Verity's best friend. By showing both character's points of view, the reader gets a real understand of what transpired before and after that fateful plane crash.

Code Name Verity is a great historical fiction read for 8th grade and up. It was a Printz Honor book this year and lives up to everything I've heard about it.
