Introduction to FindMyPast 7:00 PM
Introduction to FindMyPast
FindMyPast is an online genealogy service that holds a variety of resources that can bridge the connection to your English and Irish heritage. In addition to holding United States records, FindMyPast provides access to millions of English, Scottish, Irish, British Commonwealth and Welsh records, some dating as far back as the 11th century. Collections include parish records, censuses, passenger lists, birth, marriage, and death records, British Army service records, and more. Aimed for the beginning user, the session will cover how to get started, explore the kinds of information you can find, and guide you through the basics of navigation and search techniques.

Registration is required and space is limited for our genealogy workshops. Please email us at njhgc@jfpl.org or call us at 973-538-3473 to reserve a place. Held in technology lab.

The library is pleased to announce the seventh movie in our 2nd Annual “Foreign Cinema Series,” featuring eight entertaining and thought-provoking foreign films from Europe, Latin America, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Tonight's feature: The Insult, a 2017 Academy Award nominee for Best Foreign Language film and winner at multiple U.S. and international film festivals. Set in Beirut, an insult blown out of proportions finds Toni, a Lebanese Christian, and Yasser, a Palestinian refugee, in court. From secret wounds to traumatic revelations, the media circus surrounding the case puts Lebanon through a social explosion, forcing Toni and Yasser to reconsider their lives and prejudices.  Read more...

Chess Club
Join us for chess on the third Thursday of every month. The group will meet from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. upstairs in the F.M. Kirby Gallery. We will enjoy friendly, non-competitive, short games of chess between players of all skill levels. Basic knowledge of the game's rules is required. Improve your game, make new friends and enjoy playing chess! Players of all ages are welcome to play as long as they know the rules. Please bring your own chess board, pieces, and time clock. Games will be between 20-30 minutes as agreed upon between players.

Open Enrollment for the Affordable Care Act goes from November 1st to December 15th, 2018. The NJ State Library has created an online guide to aid applicants in understanding the act and applying. The Ties that Bind: How Race Relations Shaped Morris County and New Jersey, 1688 – 2018: Bethel Church Exhibition
October 3, 2018 - January 5, 2019 New Jersey’s history includes enslavement of African Americans and existence of free black communities. Black and white residents either helped each other or stood in the way of equality and equity for all. At times, the fate of the black and white community was “tied” to each other. The “ties that bind” us together as a community can be tight enough to encourage cooperation, or too tight, leading to conflict.
