Chess Club Chess Club
Morristown & Morris Twp. Library is starting a Chess Club in 2018! Join us for chess on the third Thursday of the month starting in January 2018 and running through June. The group will meet from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. upstairs in the F.M. Kirby Gallery. We will enjoy friendly, non-competitive, short games of chess between players of all skill levels. Improve your game, make new friends and enjoy playing chess! Players of all ages are welcome to play as long as they know the rules. Please bring your own chess board, pieces, and time clock. Games will be between 20-30 minutes as agreed upon between players.

LIVING WITH PRIDE: Pride Month Film Series: God's Own Country
The Library is pleased to announce our 2nd Annual “Pride Month Film Series” for 2018. Airing Thursday nights this June at 7pm, and centered on the theme “Living with PRIDE,” these four films from the U.S. and overseas celebrate the spectrum and diversity of the LGBTQ+ experience.

Our movie on Thursday, June 21 will be God’s Own Country, winner of two Sundance Awards and more than two dozen other film awards. Set in rural northern England and cited as a “stunning love story that in its finest moments is pure poetry,” “[y]oung farmer Johnny Saxby numbs his daily frustrations with binge drinking and casual sex, until the arrival of a Romanian migrant worker for lambing season ignites an intense relationship that sets Johnny on a new path.” (U.K., 2017, 1:44, Not Rated)

Subtitled in English. Light refreshments will be served.

Last year's fabric swap was so much fun, we’re doing it again! Trade that fabric in your stash that is the wrong color/style for something better! (I yard or more only please-no scraps.) We have a lot of beautiful fabric, and will have free door prizes and other giveaways too. Proficient in many styles of Tai Chi, including Chen and Yang, Master Huang enjoys teaching people about the many health and wellness benefits of Tai Chi and will lead us in learning the basic aspects of traditional practice. Adult Summer Reading Club: Libraries Rock!
Not that it's news to you, but Libraries Rock! Which is the perfect theme for this year's Summer Reading Club. Why should kids have all the fun? Sign up for the library's Adult Summer Reading Club and you’ll get a gift just for joining! The only requirement is to read or listen to books of any kind - that’s it! Sign up begins on Monday, July 2 at the Circulation or Reader's Advisor desks. Fill out a slip for every book you read or listen to and you will be entered into our weekly prize drawing. Enter to win lots of great prizes all summer long. Club runs until August 31.

Back by popular demand for a 14th year! Join us July 13th & 20th for two Friday nights of “Jazz in July”.

Tickets for both events are $20 at the door each night and all proceeds benefit the Library. No advance ticket sales available. Refreshments will be served. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Morristown and Morris Township Library.

U.S. Citizenship Exam Classes

U.S. Citizenship Exam Classes
Free classes for the the U.S. Citizenship Exam will be taught by JVS (Jewish Vocational Services) at the Library this summer from July 10-September 13 at 6:30 pm in the Technology Lab. Prepare for the Citizenship exam by learning about the N400 form, American Civics and American History. Space is limited and you must register. A Green Card is necessary to register. The North Jersey History and Genealogy Center is pleased to announce that it has opened the Henry W. Pilch Collection to researchers. The papers contain extensive documentation of land usage within the state from the early 18th through the 20th centuries that Pilch collected in the course of his law practice. In addition to tracing property ownership throughout Morris County and Northern New Jersey, the records follow the family histories of numerous prominent and longtime residents.  Read more...

Friends of Foote's Pond Wood Gallery Exhibition
This exhibit is a joint effort of The Friends of Foote's Pond Wood and the North Jersey History and Genealogy Center of the Morristown & Morris Township Library. The show will cover the history, ecology, recreational activities and wildlife of Foote's Pond Wood, located in Morristown on James Street. There will be beautiful photographs, maps, artwork and more illustrating these topics as well as informative captions and articles. A reception for the event will be held on the evening of June 27 in the F.M. Kirby Gallery. We hope you can attend and meet the creative folks who put this exhibit together!
