Proficient in many styles of Tai Chi, including Chen and Yang, Master Huang enjoys teaching people about the many health and wellness benefits of Tai Chi and will lead us in learning the basic aspects of traditional practice. Local historian, and author of New Jersey Country Houses: The Somerset Hills, W. Barry Thomson will give an illustrated presentation about the rich and varied equestrian heritage of the Somerset Hills and Morristown areas in the library's lower level meeting room at 2 p.m. Since the late 19th Century, when families of wealthy and socially prominent industrialists and financiers from New York and Newark first began to establish lavish country estates in the area, the history and culture of the region has been inextricably linked to various equestrian pursuits and international competitions under the auspices of the United States Equestrian Team.  Read more...

U.S. Citizenship Exam Classes

U.S. Citizenship Exam Classes
Free classes for the the U.S. Citizenship Exam will be taught by JVS (Jewish Vocational Services) at the Library this summer from July 10-September 13 at 6:30 pm in the Technology Lab. Prepare for the Citizenship exam by learning about the N400 form, American Civics and American History. Space is limited and you must register. A Green Card is necessary to register. The Henry W. Pilch Collection, ca.1724-1986
The North Jersey History and Genealogy Center is pleased to announce that it has opened the Henry W. Pilch Collection to researchers. The papers contain extensive documentation of land usage within the state from the early 18th through the 20th centuries that Pilch collected in the course of his law practice. In addition to tracing property ownership throughout Morris County and Northern New Jersey, the records follow the family histories of numerous prominent and longtime residents.  Read more...

Friends of Foote's Pond Wood Gallery Exhibition
The Friends of Foote's Pond Wood Gallery Exhibit is a joint effort of The Friends of Foote's Pond Wood and the North Jersey History and Genealogy Center of the Morristown & Morris Township Library. This show will cover the history, ecology, recreational activities and wildlife of Foote's Pond Wood, located in Morristown on James Street. There will be beautiful photographs, maps, artwork and more illustrating these topics as well as informative captions and articles. A reception for the event will be held on the evening of June 27 in the F.M. Kirby Gallery. We hope you can attend and meet the creative folks who put this exhibit together!

New Assistive Technology Computer

New Assistive Technology Computer
The Morristown and Morris Township Library is excited to provide a new Assistive Technology Computer to the public, which offers magnification and speech software including JAWS, Magic, Talking Typer and ZoomText. The computer is available for use in the Reference Department and comes to us through a partnership with the New Jersey Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CBVI) and the New Jersey State Library.  Read more...
