LIVING WITH PRIDE: Pride Month Film Series: God's Own Country
The Library is pleased to announce our 2nd Annual “Pride Month Film Series” for 2018. Airing Thursday nights this June at 7pm, and centered on the theme “Living with PRIDE,” these four films from the U.S. and overseas celebrate the spectrum and diversity of the LGBTQ+ experience.

Our movie on Thursday, June 21 will be God’s Own Country, winner of two Sundance Awards and more than two dozen other film awards. Set in rural northern England and cited as a “stunning love story that in its finest moments is pure poetry,” “[y]oung farmer Johnny Saxby numbs his daily frustrations with binge drinking and casual sex, until the arrival of a Romanian migrant worker for lambing season ignites an intense relationship that sets Johnny on a new path.” (U.K., 2017, 1:44, Not Rated)

Subtitled in English. Light refreshments will be served.

Thomas Nast Exhibit

Thomas Nast Exhibit
Be sure to visit the Library's exciting new exhibit, "More Than Politics: The Pen and Pictures of Thomas Nast". The exhibit will be on display in the Kirby Gallery from November 1 to January 31.

The artist lived a short walk from the library, at the corner of Miller Road and Macculloch Avenue. Images of his family, home and and local influences are explored, and selected examples showing the breadth of his work including children's illustrations, historical images, political cartoons, and his iconic drawings of Santa Claus are displayed in the exhibit. Nast's artwork has left a legacy to future generations that includes many iconic symbols that have become part of the American lexicon.

The Library's History Center has an outstanding collection of original and published works by Nast, including a first-rate collection of rare editions of his published works which include many lesser known illustrations, original Harper's Weekly issues (1857-1898), biographies and other materials related to his life and work. In addition, the Library offers free access to the full-text digital database of Harper's Weekly (1857-1912).
