One Part Woman

One Part Woman
This is a translation of the work of this Asian Indian writer. Set in the time of British rule, it tells the story of a couple and their Tamil culture. Kali and Ponna have married for love, and their marriage is good except that they have not been able to conceive a child. They become ostracized in their community. When Ponna has the chance to take part in a traditional ritual that would release her from her marital bonds for one night, will she choose to attempt to conceive? This novel reflects on what can happen when a couple cannot do what society expects of them, and what can happen if they feel forced to put the demands of that society above their own feelings. 1,000 Books to Read Before You Die

1,000 Books to Read Before You Die
This is the most fun you can have with books without actually reading one. The author spent 14 years compiling this nice, fat book, which contains lots of suggestions of reading material, about evenly split between fiction and non-fiction. It should be your go-to when looking for something "new" to read, as it will also give you access to choices that you may not have even realized you had. Check Our Catalog

The Silent Patient

The Silent Patient
This is a debut novel, and is a psychological thriller. Alicia is a famous painter, married to a famous photographer, and living an idyllic life in London-until she shoots her husband in the face five times and then is arrested. She refuses to speak. Of course, things are not always what they seem, and the author does a nice job of leading the story through several twists and turns, until it reaches a satisfying conclusion.
