Tackling NJ Fossil Fuel Pollution

Tuesday May 22, 2018
7:00 PM
Democrats and Republicans, economists and environmentalists, CEOs and countries around the world have all agreed on the need to put a price on carbon and air pollution to combat climate change. Jonathan Lu of Princeton Student Climate Initiative, will present a simple, effective, and bipartisan carbon pricing proposal for NJ called Carbon Fee & Dividend. The product of nearly 30 authors from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public Affairs and the many science departments at Princeton University and elsewhere, this study also includes input from NJ state legislators, environmentalists, and labor and business groups from across NJ.

Analyses from this wide-sweeping and balanced proposal include: NJ energy production and usage; health and environmental impacts; economic effects; business considerations; legal barriers; transportation initiatives; various policy options; and examples of other Carbon Fee Policies, already successfully enacted in other USA states and different countries. Our presenter: Princeton Student Climate Initiative is a group of Princeton undergraduate and graduate students experienced in the field of climate change. In this work they seek to improve the lives of NJ residents by putting a price on carbon, ensuring that the costs of fossil fuel pollution on human health and the environment are reflected in their price. Their policy is designed to do this while protecting the economy overall, especially those businesses and communities that are vulnerable to increased energy costs.
