Foreign Cinema Series: Shoplifters

Wednesday March 13, 2019
7:00 PM
The library is pleased to announce the second movie in our 3rd Annual “Foreign Cinema Series,” featuring eight entertaining and thought-provoking foreign films from Europe, Latin America, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Tonight's feature: "Shoplifters," a 2018 film from Japan’s Hirokazu Kore-eda, winner of over 50 awards, including three Cannes Film Festival prizes. In this film, Osamu and his son come across a little girl in the freezing cold after one of their shoplifting sessions. At first reluctant to shelter the girl, Osamu's wife agrees to take care of her after learning of the hardships she faces. Although the family is poor, barely making enough money to survive through petty crime, they seem to live happily together until an unforeseen incident reveals hidden secrets, testing the bonds that unite them.

All movies are subtitled in English. Light refreshments will be served.

This program supported by the Friends of the Library.
