Assistive Technology Program: Intermediate iPad

Tuesday May 14, 2019

A four week class for patrons 55 and older with a vision change. iPad experience is a prerequisite for this course. In this intermediate class, you will build on your basic iPad skills to learn more about the accessibility features and assistive apps available to you.

This program is provided by The New Jersey Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CBVI) as part of the Library Equal Access Program (LEAP) for New Jersey residents 55 and older who have experienced a change in vision. The Commission supports FREE iPad and computer training classes through Advancing Opportunities.

To register & for more information, please call Advancing Opportunities, Assistive Technology Services, 888-322-1918, extension 501 or send an email to jnigl@advopps.org.  At the phone number, you will receive voicemail. In your phone message or email, please leave your name, phone number and the best time to reach you. If you have a cellphone, leave that number as well. Please be aware that there is much interest in these classes, so the volume of calls and emails will be high. Springtime Qigong Classes

Tuesday May 14, 2019
7:00 PM
Pronounced “che-gong”, Qigong is a traditional Chinese mindful exercise system for cultivating and strengthening the body’s vital energy. Also known as “Chinese Yoga,” Qigong consists of a series of slow-flowing movements, which gently stretch muscles, tendons and ligaments. Similar to Tai Chi, these low-impact exercises heighten awareness of the mind-body-breath connection. Meditation and visualization are also a part of Qigong practice. Using the mind, the practitioner gathers, guides and circulates internal energy with graceful and precise movements. Qigong can be practiced by all age groups and can easily be adapted for the physically challenged. Everyone is welcome to join us for weekly classes by local resident Bianca Godoy. No previous experience or registration required.

Our instructor Bianca Godoy holds certifications to teach Qigong from the Supreme Science Qigong Center, the Chinese Health Qigong Association, and the Institute of Integral Qigong and Tai Chi. A Morristown resident, Godoy has been practicing Qigong, Yoga and Tai Chi for over 20 years.

An Introduction to Using Ancestry LE and MyHeritage

Tuesday May 14, 2019
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Did you know that you can access Ancestry LE for free when you're in the library, and MyHeritage from home? (Morris County residents). Join us for an introductory session to learn how to explore the millions of records you can find in Ancestry LE and MyHeritage at our Library. Both programs are excellent resources for uncovering your family history. They include the U.S. Federal Census from 1790-1940, US and international records, passenger lists, military records, births, deaths, marriages, and more! Aimed for beginners, this session will cover how to get started, explore the kinds of information you can find, and guide you through the basics of navigation and search techniques.
