Sixth Annual Book Arts Series

Sixth Annual Book Arts Series: Workshop

Saturday May 4, 2013
10:00 AM
Please join us for the third and final program in The Sixth Annual Book Arts Series. This workshop is entitled Casting the 3-D Paper Image and features New Jersey book artist and educator Rocco Scary.

This artist’s one-of-a-kind, sculptural Artists’ Books utilize several different techniques employing handmade paper and then incorporating these three dimensional images within the books’ ‘pages’ or covers. This workshop will focus on the cast image and demonstrate to the participant how exactly the image evolves from its conception through the mold making process, and finally to the actual casting itself.

The Book Arts Series has grown to become a wonderful, annual event here in Morristown. There is a reasonable fee for the workshops thanks to generous, private support, but seating is limited so please register early to secure a seat. Refreshments will be provided for each session beginning 30 minutes prior to the start time listed above (please note the lecture this year is on a Thursday evening). For more information, please call 973-538-6161 or e-mail

Rocco Scary is an artist and paper maker whose work explores the concept of 'place' as reservoir for memory. Currently based in North Caldwell, N.J., his Artist Books have been represented in such venues as The Center for Book Arts, The Nathan Cummings Foundation and The Grolier Club in New York City, Columbia College Center for Book and Paper Arts in Chicago, Rutgers University Book Arts Symposium and The Newark Public Library in New Jersey, University of California in San Diego, The Ellipse Arts Center in Virginia, and The Yale University Library in New Haven CT. Images of his Artists’ Books just recently appeared in a new publication, 1000 Artists’ Books. He is a recipient of a NJ State Arts Council Fellowship Grant and holds a BFA from Montclair State University and an MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts.

Please visit Rocco Scary's website here.

This program is supported through funding from the Friends of the Morristown & Morris Township Library.
