Find out who your ancestors were! This program is for beginners, covering basic methods and terms. We'll show you how to get started and provide an overview of our Library’s specialized resources for family historians and genealogists. You’ll learn about best research strategies and practices, methods for organization, and tips and tricks about researching online to locate relevant records and documents. You will leave with a good idea of how to do family research. The workshop includes a tour of our reading room, and will be held in the Library's Tech Lab.

The Library is pleased to present a special free Friday evening musical performance of selections from the classic comic operetta The Mikado by Gilbert & Sullivan. The Mikado is one of the most popular and often performed musicals of all-time and Light Opera of New Jersey breathes fresh life into this 133 year old piece. Join us in the main Circulation Room for a delightful evening and be transported back in time to Victorian England with beautiful costumes and fabulous vocals. All ages welcome. Our monthly Foreign Cinema Series is an expansion of our popular bi-annual Latino Film Series, launched in the fall of 2015. The series features eight entertaining and thought-provoking foreign films (four in the spring, and then four in the fall) from Europe, Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East. Tonight's feature: Pop Aye, a 2017 movie from Thailand. On a chance encounter, a disenchanted architect bumps into his long-lost elephant on the streets of Bangkok. Morristown & Morris Twp. Library is starting a Chess Club in 2018! Join us for chess on the third Thursday of the month starting in January 2018 and running through June. The group will meet from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. upstairs in the F.M. Kirby Gallery. We will enjoy friendly, non-competitive, short games of chess between players of all skill levels. Improve your game, make new friends and enjoy playing chess! Players of all ages are welcome to play as long as they know the rules. Please bring your own chess board, pieces, and time clock. Games will be between 20-30 minutes as agreed upon between players.

Ancestry LE has over 16 billion records to help you begin your genealogy search, including the U.S. Federal Census from 1790-1940. Come learn how to use the census, Ancestry.com and My Heritage to start researching your own family tree.

Google Calendar can be a great multi-purpose organizational tool to allow you to be more efficient and on top of things! We will cover the basics and some advanced features of using Google Calendar including calendar and event creation, sharing options, adding calendars to smartphones and tablets, advanced event features such as creating web meetings and meeting invitations, and more. Let this tool put some organization back in your life!

Those registering for this class should have a significant comfort level with using a computer mouse, keyboard and the Internet. It is recommended that attendees have or create a Google account BEFORE the beginning of the class.

Democrats and Republicans, economists and environmentalists, CEOs and countries around the world have all agreed on the need to put a price on carbon and air pollution to combat climate change. Jonathan Lu of Princeton Student Climate Initiative, will present a simple, effective, and bipartisan carbon pricing proposal for NJ called Carbon Fee & Dividend. The product of nearly 30 authors from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public Affairs and the many science departments at Princeton University and elsewhere, this study also includes input from NJ state legislators, environmentalists, and labor and business groups from across NJ.  Read more...
