Fall Qigong Classes

Fall Qigong Classes
Pronounced “chee-gong”, Qigong is a traditional Chinese mindful exercise system for cultivating and strengthening the body’s vital energy. Also known as “Chinese Yoga,” Qigong consists of a series of slow-flowing movements, which gently stretch muscles, tendons and ligaments. Similar to Tai Chi, these low-impact exercises heighten awareness of the mind-body-breath connection. Meditation and visualization are also a part of Qigong practice. Using the mind, the practitioner gathers, guides and circulates internal energy with graceful and precise movements. Qigong can be practiced by all age groups and can easily be adapted for the physically challenged. Join us for weekly classes by local resident Bianca Godoy. For all abilities. Everyone is welcome, no previous experience or registration required.  Read more...

The library is pleased to participate in LatinX ConeXiones, an exploration of the arts and culture of Latinx artists and communities in Morris County presented by the Arts & Culture Collaborative. As part of this collaboration and our celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the library will feature three films from Latin America. This month’s feature is All of Me (Llévate Mis Amores), a timely and inspiring documentary from Mexico that tells the stories of Las Patronas, a group of women of humble means who, every day since 1995, have been preparing food and water and tossing them to migrants traveling north to the U.S. on a freight train nicknamed La Bestia (“The Beast”). Closely bound by family lines and faith, the women put themselves at no small risk as they stand near the tracks, hands nervously outstretched with their bags, hoping to get food into as many hands as possible without accidentally pulling someone off or getting dragged along.  Read more...

Mystery, Millions & Murder in North Jersey: The Tragic Kidnapping of Exxon’s Sidney Reso -- An author event with John E. O'Rourke
One spring morning in Morristown, NJ in 1992, local police discovered a car idling in a driveway with the door open and the driver missing. After they learned the driver was Sidney Reso, the president of Exxon International, the FBI joined the investigation. Over the next two months, law enforcement received cryptic communications that led to a cat-and-mouse chase for those responsible. Retired cop Arthur Seale and his wife, Irene, demanded one of the largest ransoms in U.S. history and authorities struggled to solve the case. Local author John E. O’Rourke recounts the heinous crime that rocked this once sleepy suburb and brought the nation’s eyes to Morristown.  Read more...

The Arctic and Antarctic: A Visual Journey
7:00 PM
The Arctic and Antarctic: A Visual Journey
The polar regions, north and south, are different in many ways. The Arctic is more accessible as it is contiguous with the land masses of North America and Asia. The Antarctic is an island continent surrounded by water and very strong winds and currents. Polar bears are found only in the Arctic; penguins are endemic to the south. Blue Whales, the largest mammals ever to inhabit earth, are found in both regions. Evident climate change is affecting the food chain and subsequently animal life. Polar bears have become very aggressive. The sizes of penguin colonies have decreased. Glaciers are receding. Yet the vast rugged landscapes typical of the Arctic and Antarctic remain humbling.  Read more...
