Foreign Cinema Series: I Dream in Another Language (Mexico, 2017; Unrated)
The library is pleased to announce the sixth movie in our 2nd Annual “Foreign Cinema Series,” featuring eight entertaining and thought-provoking foreign films from Europe, Latin America, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Tonight's feature: I Dream in Another Language, a 2017 film from Mexico. Winner of the Audience Award at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, the story centers on an imperiled indigenous language and the efforts of Martín, a young linguist, to record and preserve Zikril before it becomes extinct. His task is no easy one because the last two speakers were once close friends who had a quarrel over fifty years ago and have not spoken to each since. Hidden in the past, in the heart of the jungle, lies a secret concealed by the language that makes it difficult to believe that the heart of Zikril will beat once again.  Read more...
