Kathryn B. Jackson Papers at the Library
Timothy Jackson, son of beloved children’s author, Kathryn B. Jackson, paid a visit to the North Jersey History and Genealogy Center on October 27th to view her papers that were recently processed and opened to researchers.

Kathryn Jackson PapersJackson was a beloved children’s author who wrote numerous titles for the Golden Books series; she is perhaps best known for the Saggy Baggy Elephant and the Tawny Scrawny Lion. A longtime Morristown resident, Jackson also worked as Senior Editor for Silver Burdett Textbook Company and Scholastic Magazine, and served as President of the Friends of the Morristown and Morris Township Library. Her papers reflect the successful publishing career that she built with husband Byron H. Jackson, Jr., and it includes photographs and ephemera depicting her family life.

During Mr. Jackson’s visit, Archivist, Jeffrey V. Moy described the work taken to preserve and catalog the records – such as encapsulating fragile news clippings and photographs, and creating an online finding aid – so that they could be made available to researchers. Jackson voiced his approval stating, “This is very good, you’ve done a great job” while noting that the “collection is very complicated, so thank you!” Furthermore, in examining a group of portraits, Mr. Jackson was able to identify several previously unknown individuals.

Detailed finding aids to this collection are available here.
